For almost two years NMDia has helped hundreds of DREAMers prepare for and request their Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) at their weekly clinics in Santa Fe NM. DACA allows immigrants who came to this country as children to obtain a work permit and protection from deportation for two years. While it might cost $1,200 or more to get DACA through a private attorney, DREAMers pay nothing at our clinic. Besides helping these young immigrants get DACA at no cost to them our goal is to engage them and build a stronger base for our organizing network that advocates for immigrant students and their families locally and nationwide. This has only been possible with the help of the amazing immigration attorney Allegra Love and volunteers at the St Bede’s Episcopal Church.
If you are interested in DACA come and see us to learn more. We are also always looking for volunteers. We have our clinics Every Friday at the St Bede’s Episcopal Church 1601 St Francis Dr Santa Fe NM from 1:00PM to 4:30PM.

Four NMDia member attended the yearly UWD regional retreat in Houston Texas this past week. Juan Carlos Deoses, Hector Aveldano, Mariel Pacheco and Oriandi were among 80 Dreamers from around the Southwest and Mid South regions. At the gathering the affiliates took part in crucial decision making sessions that would determine the direction the organization was taking at a national level. It was decided that we will continue to pressure the Obama administration so that we get the long over due Administrative relief for our families. Some input was also given on the proposed new structure for UWD.
